Sir Edward Leigh is made Commendatore of the Order of the Star of Italy

Yesterday Pasquale Terracciano, the Ambassador of Italy in London, bestowed the honour of Commendatore of the Order of the Star of Italy as conferred by the President of the Republic, to Sir Edward Leigh.

English politician and private secretary to Margaret Thatcher between 1976 and 1977, Sir Edward Leigh was member of the House of Commons from 1983 for Gainsborough. Under his leadership, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was responsible for saving the taxpayer over £4 billion from 2001 to 2010, which occupies itself with the control of the government public spending. Leigh was elected to the Greater London Council, serving as Councillor between 1974 and 1981.

Ever a supporter of our country, Leigh is currently serving as the Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Italy, a role that continues to consolidate bilateral relations and inspire numerous initiatives resulting in a stronger rapport between the anglo-italian Parliaments.
